Updated: 09/07/2022 – Here are 9 daily habits to ensure a great day. They are little things that we can do to help us mentally and physically. It won’t cost anything and hardly takes any time at all.

But we have to train ourselves to pay attention and make a conscious effort in order to incorporate them into our day.

9 daily habits woman

The first daily habit to ensure a great day is stretching.

A good stretch can increase energy; loosen muscles; increase blood flow to all parts of the body; alleviate aches and pains; and provide more flexibility in muscles and joints.

The best stretches for you depends on your age, physical abilities and your time availability.   Even as little as five minutes of stretching can help to get you ready for your day or feel better during a busy afternoon.

Yoga is a series of movements and motions that are very beneficial for our bodies. Since I’ve discovered yoga, I have less incidents of downtime due to back spasms.  If I overdo or I feel the twinges that my back is about to give me a problem, I take some time to get in a few good stretches and can usually stave off a full-blown spasm.  This may not work for everyone but you can find moves that will benefit you.

You can find stretching exercises for all age groups on the web, you-tube, or at your local gym. There are plenty of stretching apps that you can download and use during lunch breaks or while at your child’s baseball practice.

Get those stretches in whenever and wherever you can!

It’s always a good idea to talk with your doctor before you take on any type of exercise routine.

Drink Water

Staying hydrated helps to regulate your body temperature, replaces fluids that you have lost through sweat, keeps joints lubricated and helps to eliminate toxins and wastes from the body.

A good practice to get into is to have a glass of water as soon as you get up in the morning to rehydrate your body after not having water throughout the night.

Drinking a glass of water with each meal as well as in between meals as a good habit to get into.

If you usually have a water bottle with you at all times, try taking a sip whenever the thought pops into your head. It’s a good way to make sure you stay hydrated.

Don’t wait until you get thirsty to drink water as this is a sign of dehydration which can cause dizziness, fatigue and headaches.

So don’t forget the second daily habit of hydration to ensure a great day!

The third daily habit to ensure a great day is moving. Get your blood circulating! It’s good for your heart!

When I sit at my desk, it’s easy to get lost in work.  Think about it.  How long and how often do you sit without moving?  An easy way to remind yourself is to set your phone’s alarm to go off at least every hour.  Get up to get a glass of water, do some stretching, or take a lap around the house or office.

I move a lot.  That doesn’t mean that I get my 10,000 steps in every day, but I usually can’t sit still.  When I brush my teeth, I walk. Curling my hair is a good time to get some squats in.  Sitting with my feet up, I’m stretching and flexing my feet to get a good stretch in my calves.

We can get very complacent.  It takes a conscious effort to stay in motion.

Did you know that children smile approximately 400 times a day?  An average adult normally smiles 40 – 50 times a day – some even less than that.

Why would smiling be the fourth daily habit to ensure a great day?

There are benefits to putting on a happy face.  It actually reduces stress and blood pressure when we smile.  A smile releases endorphins which make us feels good.  It has been proven that people will be drawn to you when you smile.  You appear more approachable and, believe it or not, more attractive

So, come on, let’s see that smile!

There are many times throughout the day when we get stressed, our muscles get tense, but we may not realize it.

A quick and easy practice to start is meditating.  This is our fifth daily habit to ensure a great day.

If you just need a minute to de-stress, go to a quiet area at work (or home), sit in a comfortable manner and close your eyes.  Clear your mind. Now, pay particular attention to any tension that you are holding.  Hone into your forehead, release any frown.  Next, let the tension out of your eyebrows.  Let your eyelid gently cover your eyes – no squinting.  Now relax the mouth area, unclench your teeth and let your jaw go slack.

Do this with each part of your body, paying particular attention to each area as you release the tension from head to toe.  Keep your mind clear for a minute or two.  You should feel refreshed!

Here’s number six.

Add some morning sunshine into your life. It energizes and provides Vitamin D which is essential for healthy bones. Sun affects many other aspects of our lives such as weight loss and sleep patterns!

The amount of time that you can spend in the sun depends on your health, age and skin tone, among other things. The norm is 5 – 15 minutes.

So, get outside to enjoy the sunshine – but don’t forget the sunscreen!

Did you know that most of us do not breathe properly?  How can that be? We’ve done it since the moment of birth and get plenty of practice.

But, many of us shallow breathe by not filling our lungs and using our diaphragm.  Practicing proper breathing techniques will aid in better blood flow throughout the body, increase energy, and can improve digestion as well as posture.

Proper breathing takes no time out of your busy day.  You just need to pay more attention to how you’re doing it!

And that is number seven of daily habits to ensure a great day.

Here’s number eight. Hugs!

Yes, hugs make us happy. They can lower blood pressure and heart rates.  Studies show that hugging keeps us healthy.  Our self esteem can be boosted and a feeling of being comforted and safe can all happen because of a hug!

Eat a Banana

And finally, number 9 of daily habits to ensure a great day.

Eat a banana. It may help you to sleep better.

We all know that bananas are a good source of potassium.  But did you know they also contain magnesium?  And because magnesium has a calming effect – helping to reduce stress – therefore can quite possibly promote a better night’s sleep!

And there you have it!

Just by remembering to incorporate these small things into your day can boost your energy and change your outlook. A little bit of practice and you can evolve into a totally new person!
